The feeling was ethereal...

Last March, I found out I was pregnant after a positive pregnancy test and some coaxing from my husband that he felt I was pregnant. After a feeling of nausea and back pain, I decided to test to determine if I was really pregnant. When I saw the two pink lines, I shouted with joy. I hugged my husband tightly and cried. This was a miracle, all in God's perfect timing.

The few weeks that followed were sometimes happy and sometimes dreadful. Due to the hormones, I was feeling nauseated day and night. I vomited once or twice a day and had a metallic taste in my mouth. I was sensitive to all the smells. To add to the symptoms, I was also experiencing extreme fatigue, constipation, indigestion and heartburn. I was able to manage because of my very supportive and thoughtful husband, eating small and frequent meals, always sitting upright after eating and reading a lot of pregnancy books, magazines and websites.

I am now on my 12th week. Last Monday, we were able to get a glimpse of our little angel. All throughout my first ultrasound scan, our baby was always moving her/his arms and legs. The sonographer explained the measurements and pointed to us that the brain, stomach, kidneys, heart, arms and legs were all normal. We also opted for the nuchal translucency scan to test for Down's syndrome. At first, the sonographer had a difficult time measuring the thickness of our baby's nuchal fold since it was always moving and was in an awkward position. At last, she was able to obtain the measurement and she told us that the nuchal thickness was 1.7 mm and was also a normal finding. The feeling as I said was ethereal and was beyond words really. When Gilbert and I saw our little angel moving around jumping from the floor to the placental roof, we were tremendously happy. It is truly a miracle of life. :-)
